The Lunch Reset: 15 minutes that save your afternoon

If your afternoons feel like sinking ships, the lunch you skipped is usually the leak. The Lunch Reset is a 15-minute structured pause — designed for ADHD, autistic, and burned-out brains that need a script.

Why a script?

Executive dysfunction makes open-ended breaks ("just relax for lunch") nearly impossible. A script removes every decision: you don't pick what to do, you follow the steps. The nervous system gets a real pause without having to design one.

The 15-minute structure

  • Minute 0–2: Plate something. Anything. Yogurt counts. A protein bar counts. The plate matters more than the meal.
  • Minute 2–5: Sit down somewhere not your desk.Couch, floor, balcony, parked car. Physical relocation tells your nervous system "we are off the clock."
  • Minute 5–12: Eat slowly with one calm input. A favorite playlist, a low-stakes show, the view out a window. Not email. Not the news. Not Slack.
  • Minute 12–14: Drink a full glass of water.Hydration is the second-most-skipped basic need. Catch it here.
  • Minute 14–15: Three slow breaths and a body scan.Shoulders down. Jaw soft. Re-enter the day deliberately.

What it's not

  • It's not mindful eating in a strict sense — eat however works.
  • It's not a productivity hack to do MORE work afterward.
  • It's not a meal plan. The food is whatever's there.

If 15 minutes feels like too much

Start with five. Set a timer. Eat one thing sitting down with one calm input. That's a complete Lunch Reset. The full 15 is a goal, not a gate.

If you skip it

That's data, not a failure. Notice what got in the way — meeting, spiral, hyperfocus — and try again tomorrow. The Reset works on the days you do it. The other days are just other days.
